Swainsboro Raceway 2013 Points Banquet!

Swainsboro Raceway held its annual points banquet Saturday night about the Savannah River Queen. Swainsboro Raceway drivers and their racing teams along with sponsors and faculty, enjoyed a beautiful dinner cruise along the Savannah River as the top five drivers in each division received awards. After enjoying a lovely dinner, everyone watched a year end slide show review sponsored by Purvis Racing Parts and prepared by Shawn Wombles. Special thanks to Gene Renfroe and Clint Braswell for providing Swainsboro Raceway with photos and racing videos throughout the year.
The second through fifth place driver in each division received a trophy and money. The points champions wives each received a Thirty one gift bag and all ladies received a gift when boarding the Savannah River Queen. The 2013 Points Champions each received a one year subscription to Speedway Illustrated, trophy, Hoosier Racing jackets, championship ring, replica check, and money. The Daniels Chevrolet Pure Stock , Sunoco Super Street, and Zaxby’s Crate Late Model Points Champion each received a gift certificate for GRW Competition Engines.
In the West Main Pit Stop 440 division, reigning points champion, John Whisnant picked up fifth place. John Hooks took home fourth and Justin Thompson ended the year with a few wins and second place points. Dominating many races throughout the year and receiving the nickname Fireball, after his car lit up in flames one night, 2013 West Main Pit Stop 440 Points Champion Tommy Davis wrapped up the racing season with an incredible record. Congratulations Tommy Davis 2013 West Main Pit Stop 440 Points Champion!
Picking up a few wins for the season in one of the most competitive classes, George Williamson took home fourth place in the Adams Construction Road Warrior points. Taking home third place as a first year rookie in racing, Eric Weber. Battling hard throughout the season and grabbing several wins, Tsunami Alf Wimberly took home second place points for the year. Grabbing his first points championship at a young age, Tyler Holt grabbed the title of 2013 Adams Construction Road Warrior Points Champion. Congratulations Tyler Holt!
Returning from retirement, Roger McKenzie took home fifth place in the Extreme Concrete Mini Stock division. Competing in his first full season of racing, Payton Johnson had several weeks of bad luck but continued to strive each week and earned fourth place for the year. After taking a week off early in the year to spend time with his family so that he didn’t get wrapped up in the points battle, Brad McKenzie’s love for racing still earned him third place in points. Tim Wilkerson battled every week, ending the year with two consecutive wins, and grabbing that second place points prize. Winning the most consecutive races in history and battling many nights from the rear to the front, Joey Schoen earned the nickname “Gone Schoen,” and powered his way to the title of 2013 Extreme Concrete Mini Stock Points Champion. Congratulations Joey Schoen!
Opening up the next division with a great speech appreciating track owner Paul Purvis for his dedication, Charlie Coxwell took home fourth place in the Daniels Chevrolet Pure Stock division. Battling each week with several nights of tough luck, Brent Herndon ended the year with a few wins, and grabbed the third position in points. A double duty driver every week and earning second place points Cool hand Luke Scott. Grabbing a win during the season, having the most consecutive top five finishes, improving the most from last season, and brand new father Wesley Coleman took the 2013 Daniels Chevrolet Pure Stock Championship. Congratulations Wesley Coleman!
Moving up from the Road Warrior division, Barefoot TJ Purvis grabbed fifth place points in the Sunoco Super Street division. Picking up a win during the season, Mr Excitement Rod Wiggins grabbed the fourth position and ending the year with win Danny “Scab” Scarboro took home third place in points. Battling each week quiet often for the first or second position in a close battle for the championship, Dustin Watkins took home second place points. Finishing the season with several race wins, Luke Scott grabbed the 2013 Sunoco Super Street Points Championship! Congratulations Luke Scott!
Taking home fourth place in the Zaxby’s Crate Late Model division, making impressive improvements throughout the year on the track, the reigning sportsman of the year, Chris Taylor. Competing each week and grabbing third place Glen Watkins. Receiving second place was reigning champion, Austin Scarboro. Clinching the 2013 Zaxby’s Crate Late Model Championship, veteran driver, Hurricane Henry Carter. Congratulations Henry Carter!
Ending the evening, track owner Paul Purvis, presented the last award of the evening. The O’Reilly Sportsman of the Year. Each year a driver is recognized for their sportsmanship on and off the track throughout the racing season. This award is presented to a driver that shows up each week and carries the passion of racing with a good attitude no matter how the night turns out. Congratulations to the 2013 O’Reilly Sportsman of the Year Mollie Boyd!
