Friday night drivers from across the U.S. rolled into Swainsboro Raceway as the United Sprint Car Series took the 3/8 mile oval at speeds topping 95mph.  Fans and drivers packed the stands and infield for a thundering heart pounding night of excitement as the Zaxby’s Crate Late Model division and Southland Insurance 602 Sportsman division competed in feature events along with heat races in Sunoco Super Street, Daniels Chevrolet Pure Stock, Roger Wheeler Construction Road Warrior, and Scare House of the South 440.

In the Zaxby’s Crate Late Model division, Ironhead Chesley Dixon took the lead early with Joshua Bishop second.  After caution, John Ruggiero Jr takes advantage on the restart to move into second as Cody Overton is off the pace.  Jimmy Thomas challenged Ruggiero for second.  Lap 5, Cole Godowns is forced to pit with a flat.  Lap 6, Bishop moves back to third.  Battling hard for a top five finish, Ken Ricks, Rye Faulk, and Michael Akeson spin coming off turn four.  Dixon pulls away with the lead.  Lap 13, Joshua Bishop slips and Jimmy Thomas closes in to take third.  Chesley Dixon takes the checkered, John Ruggiero second, Jimmy Thomas third, Joshua Bishop fourth, and Chris Usry fifth.

Defending United Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters National Champion and current points leader, Jordon Mallett from Greenbrier, Arkansas bested early-race leader, Matt Kurtz from Jacksonville, Florida who led the first seventeen laps of the twenty-five lap caution-free USCS Red Dirt Rumble Round #1 contest to park in the www.rockauto.com USCS Victory Lane at Swainsboro Raceway during the USCS Freakin’ Fast Friday presented by FireAde on Friday night. It was Mallett’s fourth win of the 2018 season with the series to keep his wins column lead for the season intact.

Kurtz who started outside the front row next to Mallett, who was the K&N Filters Pole Position starter, raced into the lead on the first circuit around the beautiful 3/8 mile red-clay oval. He then proceeded to lead the first seventeen circuits of the race until, Mallett race by coming off turn two and held off the former Florida Top Gun Series Champion in his own Kurco sponsored #92 to the checkers.

Kurtz had to settle for the runner-up spot, with the evening’s Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger, Danny Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida, who finished in the K&N Filters Podium Award Third Place. Two-time USCS National Champion, Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee followed the trio in fourth place. The eleven-time USCS National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee rounded out the top five drivers.

For the Southland Insurance 602 Sportsman $1000 to win, Shannon Graham earned the fastest qualifying time over Blake Smith.  On the start, Graham took the lead in turn one.  Lap 2, Smith closes in down the back stretch but Graham maintains the lead.  Lap 4, Terry Lumley and Ricky McClain keep swapping for the fourth position.  Lap 6, Smith tries different lines attempting the lead but Graham holds control.  Five to go, Smith gets underneath Graham going into turn one, the two make contact as Smith nearly spins off turn two but saves it never losing position.  Now battling a broken nose, Smith loses sight as Graham checks out and Tyler Sanders closes in on second.  Shannon Graham picks up his first Southland Insurance 602 Sportsman win of the season, Blake Smith second, Tyler Sanders third, Terry Lumley fourth, and Ricky McClain fifth.
