Lastinger Takes First Win at Swainsboro Raceway!

Saturday night racing action at Swainsboro Raceway started with the 602 Crate Late Model division. Benjamin Cranford grabbed the heat race win over Austin Scarboro. At the green, Cranford took the lead off turn four. Cranford immediately stretched out by nearly a straight away. Lap four, Tyler Mimbs started closing in on Austin Scarboro for second. Five to go, Cranford passing lapped car go turned around off turn two. On the restart, Cranford fired but something happened during the wreck causing mechanical issues forcing Cranford to pit for the night. Austin Scarboro held off Tyler Mimbs to take the checkered.

Competing for $2000 to win in the Zaxby’s Crate Late Model division, Jimmy Sharpe Jr earned the fastest time over Jimmy Thomas. Sharpe took the lead, Shane Riner challenged Thomas for the second position. Lap three, John Henderson moved into fourth. Lap five, Shannon Graham night ended early after having a flat and hitting the inside retaining wall. On the restart, Henderson moved inside Riner to challenge for third. The two battled for several laps. Jimmy Sharpe, Jr strolls to the checkered, Jimmy Thomas takes second, John Henderson picks up third, Shane Riner fourth, and Henry Carter fifth.

In the Scare House of the South 440 division, Paul “Donut” Carroll and Tommy Davis earned heat race wins leading the field to green. Davis takes the lead off turn two with Carrol second and Richard Lastinger third. Lap one, Terry Davis, Lastinger, and Scotty Hunnicutt battled three wide for third. Lap three, as Carroll fought handling issues due to struts, Lastinger took over second. Lap four, Terry Davis and nephew Tyler Davis battled for fourth. Three laps to go, points leader Tommy Davis broke due to transmission issues. Richard Lastinger took the lead and held on to the checkered for his first win of the season. Coming to the checkered, Terry Davis moves by Paul Carroll for second position. Tyler Davis takes home fourth and Mark Bunch finishes out the top five.

Up next, Daniel Roland takes the lead off turn two in the Sunoco Super Street division. Lap two, Jamie Whitaker moves into the fourth position. Lap three, Johnnie Tucker Jr attempts second putting pressure on Andy Stewart. Lap five, Whitaker moves in on the action side by side Tucker for third. Halfway, Roland holds a hefty lead. Five to go, Stewart breaks in second. Moving through the field, Brent Herndon takes over fourth and next lap moves into third. Daniel Roland grabs his first win at Swainsboro Raceway, Brent Herndon makes last lap move for second, Johnnie Tucker Jr third, Jamie Whitaker fourth, and Bobby Morris fifth.

Rolling out in the Roger Wheeler Construction Road Warrior division, Jamey Foskey takes the lead early with Gene Thompson and Fate Carroll battling for second. Lap two, Chandler Strom takes over fifth from Alf Wimberly. Halfway, Logan Tanner breaks running fourth. Five to go, Jacob Barwick takes the inside of Wimberly for the fifth position. Jamey Foskey takes the checkered, Fate Carroll earns his best finish in second, Gene Thompson third, Chandler Strom moves up to fourth, and Alf Wimberly fifth.

Ending the night in the Daniels Chevrolet Pure Stock division, Brent Herndon and Andy Stewart held the front row. At the green, three wide for the lead with Roger McKenzie joining the battle. Herndon and Stewart battled door to door for several laps with Herndon getting out front. Lap three, Kip Poole took over third from Roger McKenzie. Herndon and Stewart fought for the lead out front with Poole and McKenzie battling it out for the third position. Brent Herndon earned his way to victory, Andy Stewart second, Kip Poole inched his way to third, Roger McKenzie fourth, and Tommy Hadden fifth.

Arrangements for Tyler Davis’ mother Candy and brother Austin, son to Tommy Davis, are taken care of by Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro, GA. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday June 14, 5-8pm. The Parkhurst and Davis family really need our support during the loss of two mothers, a son, and a brother. Mr Lynn Johnson needs our prayers and support as he battles critical medical conditions currently in the hospital.
